103 Chadian orphans repatriated from Algeria

One hundred and three Chadian orphans, imprisoned in Algeria over the last one year, were on Thursday repatriated to the Chadian capital.

They were among the 503 people who, in 2014, left in search for gold in Tibesti region, northern Chad. They proceeded towards northern Niger before entering the Algerian territory.

After being arrested and charged for entering Algeria illegally, they were sentenced to prison and were only released after being pardoned by Algerian President Abdelaziz Bouteflika.

Other flights carrying more Chadians are expected in N’Djamena in the coming days.

Chad’s Justice and Human Rights Minister Youssouf Abassalah hailed the good relations between Chad and Algeria, which resulted in the freeing of his compatriots. Enditem
