12 inmates escape from cell in Ghana

A total of 12 inmates escaped from a police cell in the Ghanaian capital after pouring hot porridge over the face of a police officer on duty at the time, local media reported on Monday.

According to the reports, the violent cell break at Zenu-Atadeka in the Kpone-Katamanso municipality on Sunday left the police officer on duty with bruises. The inmates attacked the police officer when he opened the iron doors of the cell to place one more suspect in custody.

The suspects were under investigation for various criminal acts including robbery. Ibrahim Adams, one of the suspects was re-arrested at his hide-out in the capital, and there is a man-hunt for the remaining 11.

A similar cell break took place in January 2018 when armed men shot and killed a police officer on duty at the Kwabenya police station in the capital, facilitating the escape of suspects in custody. Enditem
