Prisons officers at the pass out at Kololo ceremonial grounds.

The new officers received nine months of both abstract and practical training at the Prisons Staff College and Training School. Of the new officers, 348 are women and the remaining 878 are men.

Speaking to New Vision shortly before the start of the pass out ceremony, Assistant Commissioner of Prisons, John Bosco Tumwebaze the commandant of the college said the new officers had undergone training elaborate enough to enhance operational efficiency of correctional facilities.

The new officers were taken through the critical course of prison warders and wardresses.

Nevertheless, emphasis was laid on correctional programmes and modern agricultural practices ? a skill that will come handy on deployment since Prisons is arbiter of thousands of miles of agrarian land.
