Some 12,000 employees in Mozambique’s tourism sector are still out of job due to the impact caused by the COVID-19 pandemic, National Director of Tourism Candido Langa told local television STV on Friday.
Mozambique only received 958,000 tourists in 2020, less than half of about 2 million visitors that visited the country in 2019, the station reported.
Revenues from international tourism dropped more than a half to 65 million U.S. dollars in 2020, down from the 173 million dollars collected in the previous year, Langa said.
The director said it is still early to assess the situation of the tourism sector for this year, admitting that the current financial support is not enough to meet the needs of the companies in the sector. Enditem
