Two people are reported dead while thirteen others have been rescued from a building that collapsed near the Free Zones Board at Cantonment in Accra.

The owner of the three-storey building is one of the people confirmed dead as personnel from the various services make frantic efforts to rescue the people trapped under the building.

So far twelve people including a lady have been rescued and are receiving medical attention.

They are believed to be workers involved in putting up the structure. Eye-witnesses are blaming the collapse of the building on a weak pillar which couldn?t support the weight of the storey building.

Personnel from Engineers and Planners (E and P) under the supervision of Ibrahim Mahama, brother to President Mahama have provided heavy equipment to facilitate rescue efforts by the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS), Armed Forces, the Ghana Police Service, the Ambulance Service and National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO).

The rescue effort will travel deep into the night and may last till Sunday as personnel appeal for water and other equipment that will aid them in the dark at night.
