The West African Examinations Council, (WAEC), on Thursday, said it has withheld the entire results of 11,759 candidates pending the conclusion of investigations into alleged examination malpractices.

The statement, signed by Mrs Agnes Teye-Cudjoe, Principal Public Affairs Officer of WAEC, and copied to the Ghana News Agency in Accra, said the Council was in the process of dispatching the results to the schools through the Municipal/District Directors of Education.

It said the Council had also hosted the results online and candidates who so desired may access their results online at the Council’s website.

The statement said, 398 candidates had their subject results cancelled as the affected candidates were involved in various examination malpractices.

?These include bringing foreign material into the examination hall and collusion. Further, the entire results of 64 candidates have been cancelled and these include those who brought mobile phones to the examination hall and received external assistance,? it said.

It said the entries of 13 candidates were also nullified because they were not bona fide students of the schools, which registered them for the examination and their continuous assessment scores were forged.

The statement explained that, a total of 422,946 candidates made up of 219,394 males and 194,854 females registered for the examination which is 8.157 per cent higher than that of the previous year.

It said, the candidates were from a total of 12,562 schools and the examination was administered at 1,431 centres, and out of those who initially registered for the examination, 2,758 representing 0.59 per cent were absent.
