The maiden edition of the Northern Trade Fair 2017 has opened in Tamale to showcase emerging business opportunities in the region.
The four-day event, which ends on Saturday, has brought together over 500 entrepreneurs, craftsmen, manufacturers, producers and service providers amongst others to market their wares.
It is organized by the Northern Region Office of the Ministry of Trade and Industry, in partnership with Universal Marketing Consultancy Limited and Dansyn Ghana Limited on the theme: “Harnessing the Emerging Business Opportunities in the North for Economic Development through Trade and Commerce.”
Mr Alan Kyeremanten, Minister of Trade and Industry, whose speech was read on his behalf, urged manufacturers and producers to comply with standardized requirements outlined by the Ghana Standard Authority, Food and Drugs Authority, amongst others to ensure quality products.
Mr Kyeremanten said “It is by this that locally produced goods and services can help in the improvement of the Ghanaian economy, through strong value chain development of made in Ghana products.
Mr Salifu Saeed, Northern Regional Minister said “The region has a lot of potentials, which business can exploit and therefore we are positioning the private sector to take advantage and grow their business.”
Mr Saeed said the fair formed part of efforts to reposition the region to attract investors to exploit its potentials in the areas of agriculture, tourism and services to accelerate job creation and development.
Some of the exhibitors were excited at the opportunity to showcase their products and expressed the hope that people would patronize the fair.
