Mr Peter Korda, Head, Public Relations, Ghana National Association of Teachers (GNAT), says the teachers’ union expect a better 2021 Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) results despite the long COVID-19 break.
He said teachers did their best to catch up with the curriculum despite the 10-month break last year due to COVID-19.
“The COVID-19 had pushed teachers to go the extra to adequately prepare students for the examination through extra classes and online teaching and assignments.
“With this, we are expecting better results this year. We have the hope that our students would excel,” he said.
Mr Korda made these remarks in an interview with the Ghana News Agency on the upcoming BECE, starting from Monday, November 15, 2021 to Friday, November 19, 2021.
He admitted that though there were challenges that some students went through with the online classes, they were able to catch up when schools reopened.
Mr Korda said during their tours in schools they realised that students were expectant and in preparation for the examinations.
He advised them to adhere to rules and instructions for the examination and avoid engaging in malpractice.
“We wish the students well in their exams and we are hopeful that they would excel. However, they should not engage in examination malpractice and carefully follow all rules and instructions,” he said.
A total of 571, 984 students will be sitting for this year’s BECE at 2,158 centres across throughout the country.
This is an improved number from 531,707 candidates and 517,332 candidates for 2020 and 2019, respectively.
