Ghana’s Electoral Commission (EC) has announced that no polling station will have more than 750 voters for the upcoming 2024 general elections.
Dr Serebuor Quaicoe, the Director of IT at the EC, explained that the move aims to prevent counting delays, which previously extended late into the night when some stations had over 2,000 voters.
Dr Quaicoe announced a seminar hosted by the Institute of Democratic Governance (IDEG) in Accra on August 9.
He highlighted that the reduced threshold should streamline the counting process and avoid the confusion that often occurs at night.
In addition to this, Dr. Quaicoe addressed the issue of filing fees for presidential candidates. He stated that aspirants should be able to raise the required fees from their supporters if they cannot afford them individually.
The EC recently set the nomination fee for male presidential candidates at GH¢100,000, while female candidates and persons with disabilities will pay GH¢75,000.
