Mussa Dankwa, Executive Secretary of Global InfoAnalytics, has asserted that the 2024 general elections primarily hinge on the presidential candidates rather than their running mates.
In an interview with TV3 on July 27, during the coverage of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) campaign launch, Dankwa emphasized that the impact of running mates, who are traditionally seen as potential successors and key figures in the campaign, on the election outcome will be minimal.
“This election is not about running mates; people are focusing on the flagbearers,” Dankwa stated. He argued that the choice of running mates will not significantly influence the parties’ electoral prospects.
The remarks came amid the NDC’s campaign launch in Tamale, where Elvis Afriyie Ankrah, a party’s manifesto committee member, outlined the NDC’s comprehensive strategy for the 2024 elections. Afriyie Ankrah revealed the party’s ambitious goal to secure 14 out of 18 parliamentary seats in the Northern Region.
He underscored the Northern Region’s strategic importance to the NDC’s campaign, despite the Volta Region being the party’s traditional stronghold.
Afriyie Ankrah also vehemently criticized the Akufo-Addo administration for its handling of the economy, asserting that economic mismanagement has led to widespread discontent, which he firmly believes will drive voters towards the NDC.
“People have seen the abysmal performance in every sector of the economy. The current situation will push Ghanaians to support the NDC,” he said.
