If elected president, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, the New Patriotic Party (NPP) presidential candidate, has pledged to safeguard and expand the Free Senior High School (SHS) and Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) programs.
Speaking at the NPP’s manifesto launch in Takoradi on August 18, Dr Bawumia underscored the crucial role these educational initiatives play in the nation’s development and the future of Ghanaian youth.
He reaffirmed his commitment to providing every Ghanaian child with access to quality education, regardless of financial background.
“Our government will protect and enhance the Free SHS and TVET programs, which are transforming lives and improving outcomes for millions,” Dr Bawumia said.
“Since their introduction, enrollment has surged by 83%. We are laying the foundation for a well-educated and prosperous society.”
Dr. Bawumia detailed plans to increase funding, improve infrastructure, and update curricula to align with modern job market needs.
He also announced plans to expand TVET access and enhance teacher recruitment with improved conditions of service.
Emphasizing the positive impact of these programs, he noted their success in achieving gender parity, with more girls now benefiting from secondary education.
“This progress will bring long-lasting benefits to our society,” Dr. Bawumia added.
