Passion For Needy, an NGO has presented assorted food items to 240 elderly but needy persons from the various zones of HelpAge Ghana in the Greater Accra Region.
The food items included bags of rice, cooking oil, canned fish, canned tomato paste as well as pastries, water and soft drinks.
The donation is to acknowledge the contributions made by individuals and organizations in supporting government’s effort to provide essential services to Society.
Mrs Janet Torgbor El-Aschkar, Chairperson, Passion For Needy, said the organisation’s relationship with HelpAge Ghana began in September 2010, when its first provided its support to selected elderly but needy persons in our Society.
She said the presentation was the Organization’s Founders Day Donation to acknowledge the contribution made by the late Prophet T. B. Joshua, Founder of the NGO, and Head of the Synagogue Church of All Nations to celebrate his birthday which fell on June 12.
The gesture, she said, formed part of the ways to support the Government effort to alleviate poverty in the country.
The NGO since its inception in 2009 has provided support to several individuals and organizations which include the Osu,
Teshie and Nungua Children’s Homes; Christ Faith Foster Home at Frafraha; Accra Rehabilitation Centre; Schools for the Deaf and Blind; The Street Academy; YOA Foundation; Islamic Research Institute; La Boys and Girls Correctional Centre; and Human Compassion Organization.
“We believe that a lot of our elderly persons are facing economic challenges and hope that our “Widow’s Mite” can help make a difference in their lives,” she said.
Some of the elderly who spoke to GNA expressed appreciation to the NGO and called on other institutions to support the aged in society.
