LAWThree men are being held by the Nyinahin Police over a failed robbery attack that claimed the life of truck driver at Otaakrom in the Atwima-Mponua District.
They allegedly attempted to seize a DAF truck carrying 600 bags of cocoa, the property of KBE Enterprise, a licensed cocoa buying company (LBC) at about half past midnight, last Saturday on the Bibiani-Kumasi road.
Abdul Gafaru, William Opoku and Mohammed Ali, together with two others on the run, reportedly, drove to have their vehicle to block the DAF truck, forced the deceased driver, John Asante, from the driving seat at gun point and took over the steering wheel.
Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Fredrick Kwadwo Asare-Mensah, the Atwima-Mponua District Commander, who confirmed the incident to the Ghana News Agency (GNA), said the robbers tied the hands of the driver with a rope and threw him out of the moving truck making him fall straight on his head.
This was when they got closer to the Akota Forest Police Check Point, where the late Asante made frantic efforts to shout to catch the attention of the police, he said.
He said one other person, traveling with the deceased, Albert Osei, however, held tightly to Jafaru and both tumbled.

Osei quickly run to the police and they swiftly responded and arrested Jafaru, he said.
DSP Asare-Mensah said the truck was found abandoned at Otaakrom, with the lifeless body of Asante found on the shoulders of the road about two hours later, and the two suspects Opoku and Ali were picked at Adiembra.
The body of the deceased has since been deposited at the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH) for autopsy.
