This year marks the 35th anniversary of the Chernobyl disaster.
On Saturday, April 26, 1986, a nuclear accident occurred near the city of Pripyat, some 110 km north of Kiev.
It is considered the worst nuclear disaster in history both in terms of cost and casualties.
Over the past 35 years, efforts have been made by governments and scientists to address and mitigate its consequences.
