Property worth millions of naira destroyed

Four persons have been killed and property worth millions of naira destroyed in the recent flood disaster that ravaged parts of Bauchi State.
The Chairman, Misau Local Government Council, Alhaji Mohammed Zadawa, disclosed this on Thursday in Bauchi.

He named Gaina, Gugulin, Zadawa, Gwaram, Arobana and parts of Misau town and its environs as areas worst hit by the flood in which many houses and farmlands were destroyed.

According to him, the deaths were recorded in Dass, Misau and Toro Local Government Areas of the state.

Zadawa said that one of the deceased was killed when his  house was destroyed by the flood while other members of the family are currently receiving treatment at the Misau General Hospital.

The chairman said that officials of the State Emergence Management Agency (SEMA) were currently in the area to assess the extent of the damage caused by the flood.

He said that the council had before the beginning of the rainy season taken precautionary measures to check flooding by clearing drains and culverts to allow free flow of water.

He further said that the state government had directed a Chinese construction company to upgrade damaged culverts in the area to bridges.
