Police in the central Nigerian state of Benue on Wednesday confirmed four villagers killed and three others injured following an attack by suspected gunmen.

The village of Tse-Haaga in Guma Local Government Area of the state came under intense attack late Tuesday when the gunmen who rode motorcycles opened fire indiscriminately. This caused the locals to scamper for safety, police said.

Two people died on the spot. Later two victims succumbed to injuries on their way to the hospital, Catherine Anene, a spokesperson for police in Benue told reporters.

An investigation into the attack is underway. Enditem
