Zambia police said Saturday 43 people have been killed following attacks of people’s homes and public institutions with gas.
Zambia has been gripped by incidents of unknown people spraying gases in people’s homes, a move that has forced members of the public to kill anyone suspected of being behind the gassing.
In an update, Police Inspector General Kakoma Kanganja further revealed that 511 reports connected to the spraying of unknown chemicals in people’s homes have been recorded while 16 people, especially on the Copperbelt province, have been arrested in connection with the spraying of chemicals of which some have started appearing in court.
The police chief said an investigation team comprising various stakeholders has been constituted to conduct investigations and that great progress has been recorded.
A conclusive outcome of the investigations will be availed to the public when investigations are concluded, he added.
He expressed optimism that instances of mob justice the country has been gripped with will be brought under control following investigations done so far.
According to him, the security situation in some parts of the country where there was public disorder has improved although there were still security concerns in some parts of the country. Enditem
