Atiwa: Miners clash with police; 5 feared dead

Illegal miners have clashed with security personnel at Asaamanma in the Atiwa District of the Eastern region leading to the death of some individuals.

Earlier reports suggested that two people had been killed in the clashes but Starr News sources say the number of casualty is more than two.

The deceased were reportedly shot in the abdomen gushing out their intestines  while  several others have also been injured and hospitalized.

According to the residents, about four to five persons have been gunned  down by the security and persons believed to be land guards .

The residents are blaming the clashes on one Kwaku Ayebiahwe, a mining company owner in the area.

They claim the security personnel pounced on them unprovoked Thursday.  They added that  while some of them were arrested , others were abused and left to bleed.

However, the Atiwa district police Commander, DSP John Yeboah told the media that so far,  two people have been confirmed dead, per the records of the Police.

He said investigations have commenced into the matter.
