Five people were killed and 10 others injured in a road accident Wednesday night in the western Ugandan district of Kagadi, said district police commander Steven Kamar.
Kamar told Xinhua by phone that a truck, carrying a group of road construction workers to their camp, lost control and overturned.
“Four people died on the spot, while another died on the way to hospital,” Kamar said. “And 10 others were injured and have been admitted to different hospitals in Hoima and Kampala.”
According to Kamar, preliminary investigations show that the truck had a minor mechanical fault.
There are some 20,000 road accidents each year in Uganda, resulting in some 2,000 deaths and making it among the countries with the highest traffic fatality rates, according to police statistics. Enditem
