Eight people were buried amid tears and anguish on Monday after some gunmen who rode on motorcycles raided a village in Nigeria’s northwestern state of Zamfara, said local authorities.
Several others also sustained injuries following the attack in the Yansakai village of Bungudu local government area of the state on Sunday.
Abubakar Dauran, the state’s commissioner for security and home affairs, while confirming the incident to reporters, said a security breach on the part of the locals might have caused the attack.
According to him, a thorough investigation by the police had been launched into the killing which could fuel fresh violence in the state.
Abu Maigoro, a leader of the vigilante group in the village, identified at least three security guards among the dead victims.
Maigoro told Xinhua that the gunmen who attacked the community came on a cattle-rustling mission as they also carted away many cattle after killing the security guards. Enditem
