Henry Quartey, Ghana’s Minister of Interior, has announced that nearly 90,000 individuals have applied for positions within the country’s security services.
The recruitment portals, open from August 7 to August 13, 2024, closed with a record number of applicants vying for 12,000 available slots.
The recruitment drive, conducted by the Ghana Police Service, the Ghana Prisons Service, and the Ghana Immigration Service, has attracted significant interest.
Speaking to Joy News, Mr Quartey expressed surprise at the unprecedented response, noting that many applicants had previously shown interest in joining the security forces in 2021.
“As of two days ago, there were close to 90,000 applications,” Mr. Quartey reported, citing information from the recruitment agencies.
Despite the high volume of applicants, the Parliament-approved budget determined that only around 12,000 positions are available.
The selection process will be highly competitive, with security agencies applying rigorous criteria to identify the most qualified candidates.
“All 90,000 applicants will be evaluated based on the security agencies’ criteria to determine eligibility for admission,” Mr Quartey added.
