A Cameroonian military officer was killed and several other soldiers “seriously” injured on Monday morning in an ambush by armed separatists in Northwest, one of the two English-speaking regions of the country, according to a statement by the Cameroon army on Monday.

The soldiers fell into an ambush this morning, 20 km from the town of Wum. Lieutenant Dang Mezing, head of the team, was killed and several others seriously wounded, according to the statement.

Armed separatists want to build a nation by seceding from the largely French-speaking Cameroon.

According to the Cameroon army, at least 170 soldiers have been killed since November 2017 when government forces began to clash with separatist forces. Enditem
