Kwame Obeng Asare, popularly known as A Plus, the independent parliamentary candidate for Gomoa Central, has expressed strong confidence in the work of the Electoral Commission (EC), believing the institution is doing everything necessary to ensure free, fair, and peaceful elections in Ghana.

Speaking on United Showbiz, A Plus acknowledged that while every institution has its shortcomings, the EC’s efforts to introduce new measures to improve the electoral process should be embraced as part of the growth of the country’s democracy. He urged Ghanaians not to be overly paranoid, stressing that he does not believe the EC has any intention of rigging the elections.

“We should not be paranoid; we should trust the EC to ensure everything is free and fair,” A Plus stated. “I don’t believe the whole Electoral Commission would set out to rig the elections.”

He further praised the EC for its transparency and cooperation, noting that as an independent candidate, he had been fully informed and involved in the electoral process, from the printing of ballot papers to their transportation to constituencies.

A Plus also emphasized that this election will be peaceful, citing the vocal engagement of political parties in addressing concerns over the electoral process. He also expressed confidence in the role of the police, particularly the Inspector General of Police (IGP), Dr. George Akufo-Dampare, in maintaining law and order on election day.

“Dr. Dampare will arrest anyone who goes against the law,” A Plus warned. “He will not spare anyone, so if you think you can use your position to intimidate people, think twice. Even I, who am close to him, know that he will not hesitate to arrest me if I break the law.”

He concluded by urging all political actors to be cautious on election day and avoid any actions that could lead to arrest or disrupt the peaceful process.
