A.S Spikers beat Sky Walkers to qualify to volleyball semi’s


Defending Eastern Regional volleyball champions A.S Spikers from Asutsuare defeated Sky Walkers 3-1 in the quarter-finals of the ongoing regional volleyball league played at the Asutsuare volleyball court.

The defending champions who are burnt on winning the league title for the second consecutive time wasted no much time by claiming victory in the first set 25-15.

However, the second set became tough for them as they lost it 18-25 to Sky Walkers.

At this stage, all that, the defending champions needed to do was to take control of the third set and that is exactly what they did as they won the set 25-22 and then went ahead to win the fourth set 25-20, which gave them a 3-1 win to book a semifinal spot.

Mampong Ubuntu club also booked a semifinal place after thrashing Oda Kotoku club 3-0 in the quarter-finals.

The match which involved two league debutantes saw Ubuntu win the first, second, and third sets 22-12, 25-21 and 25-14.

Koforidua Unity club won a hard-fought 3-2 victory against Asesewa Block Busters in their quarter-final encounter.

Unity club won the first set 25-20, while Block Busters won the second set 25-21.

Unity club then won the third set again 25 -18 and Block Busters came back to win the fourth set 25-23, before Unity won the final set 15 -12 to book a semifinal spot.

Odumase Spartans booked a semifinal spot after they had a walkover against former champions Donkorkrom Court Winners who failed to turn up.

Information gathered, from their camp indicates that they could not raise the needed funds to cater for their transportation fare and other expenses.

In the women play-off match to get a team to join the other semifinalists, A. S Spikers ladies defeated Block Busters Ladies 3-1.

Block Busters Ladies who are appearing for the first time in the league were determined to make it to the semifinals.

The determination from Block Busters Ladies saw them win the first set 25-18, however, they couldn’t sustain the momentum as they lost the second, third, and fourth sets 14-25, 19 -25, and 13-25 respectively to A.S Spikers ladies.
