Governor Godswill Akpabio of Akwa Ibom State has asked traditional rulers to expose suspected criminals within their domains to security and government authorities in order to sustain the improved security in the state.
Govenor Akpabio stated this on Tuesday at Government House, Uyo during the swearing -in of Edidem Silas Akpan, Paramount Ruler of Uyo Local Government Area as the Chairman Akwa Ibom State Council of Chiefs as part of activities marking the state anniversary.
He said ?A situation where the royal fathers hide or harbour kidnappers, child traffickers and criminals within their domains will contravene the sanctity of the traditional institution.
?I urge the royal fathers to join hands with the state government and security agencies to curb the menace of child trafficking and child kidnapping. These crimes are alien to our culture and I hope that this practice is brought to an end.?
Akpabio, who emphasised that it would be embarrassing having a traditional ruler arrested by security operatives for habouring criminals, said that there was no hiding place for criminals in the state as his administration will stop at nothing to ensure that perpetrators were caught and punished.
