A total of 13 absentees out of 1,222 candidates from 28 public and private schools writing the 2021 Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) at the Twene Amanfo Senior High/Technical School (TASTECH) Centres in the Sunyani Municipality have been recorded.
They comprised six girls and seven boys expected to be among 649 females and 573 males at the five TASTECH Centres – A, B, C, D, and E located in the heart of the Sunyani Central Business District.
Speaking in an interview with the Ghana News Agency on Monday, Madam Evelyn Konadu-Boaten, the Supervisor at the TASTECH Center D said she had no idea about the cause of the absenteeism.
She said, however, that the examination was progressing smoothly as there had been no incidence of irregularities such as malpractices and other security breaches, stressing that the candidates were submissive and cooperating with the invigilators.
