Warsala, an agrarian community located along a highway connecting Borno and its neighboring Yobe State came under heavy attack in which houses and vehicles were also burned, said Bulama Mohammed, a local chief.

Many other people sustained injuries as the Boko Haram fighters raided the community, said a witness identified as Yusuf Marwa.

The community is located about 20 km to the neighboring Yobe State and some 110 km to Maiduguri, capital of the northern Borno State and known headquarters of Boko Haram.

Local police confirmed the attack to Xinhua but declined to give official figure of casualties.
Attacks carried out by Boko Haram have increased since early June, especially in Borno State of Nigeria. Nearly 1,000 people have been killed in the recent attacks as Boko Haram continues targeting civilians to cause panic and mount pressure on the government.

Meanwhile, the militant Boko Haram group early Wednesday raided Damasak town, a Nigeria-Niger border community located in the north of Borno, a military source told Xinhua. No casualty was recorded in the attack, according to the source who pleaded for anonymity.

The source said local residents had fled to a Niger community, following the attack. Enditem
