The Africa-China Centre for Policy and Advisory (ACCPA) recently hosted Chinese Ambassador to Ghana H.E. Tong Defa for a strategic dialogue aimed at enhancing bilateral collaboration, coinciding with the 65th anniversary of diplomatic relations between the two nations.
The high-level meeting, held at ACCPA’s Accra headquarters, focused on fostering mutual understanding and advancing partnerships in critical sectors such as agriculture, infrastructure, and education.
During the engagement, ACCPA Executive Director Paul Frimpong emphasized the think tank’s role in providing impartial policy research to support equitable cooperation. “Our mission is to ensure Ghana and Africa maximize the benefits of their partnership with China through informed dialogue and knowledge exchange,” Frimpong stated. He highlighted ACCPA’s commitment to bridging policy gaps and facilitating initiatives that align with Ghana’s development priorities.
Ambassador Tong reaffirmed China’s dedication to deepening ties with Ghana, citing mutual respect and shared learning as foundational to the relationship. “Our friendship is built on decades of trust and collaboration,” he said. “We are keen to elevate this partnership to new heights by focusing on people-centered development and sustainable growth.”
Discussions also explored opportunities to bolster industrialization and technology transfer, aligning with Ghana’s national agenda and broader African modernization efforts. Both parties underscored the importance of joint research and policy advisory programs to address emerging challenges and opportunities in the evolving global landscape.
The dialogue comes at a pivotal moment, as Ghana seeks to leverage international partnerships to address infrastructure deficits and economic diversification. The 65th anniversary of diplomatic relations serves as a reminder of longstanding bilateral achievements, including China’s involvement in flagship projects such as the Bui Dam and the Cape Coast Stadium.
As Ghana navigates complex development needs, platforms like ACCPA’s play a crucial role in ensuring that collaborations remain transparent, equitable, and aligned with local priorities. The outcomes of this engagement signal a mutual intent to translate dialogue into actionable policies, reinforcing Ghana-China relations as a model of South-South cooperation. Moving forward, sustained engagement and accountability will be essential to transforming shared visions into tangible benefits for both nations.
