The third edition of the Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) Diary and Awards 2014 has been held in Accra. The event aims at awarding deserving companies for their immense contributions in CSR activities within the last year.
The well attended ceremony saw a lot of corporate companies in Ghana receiving awards for their roles in CSR activities.
The awards went to Nestle Ghana Ltd, Huawei Technologies, MTN Ghana, OLAM Ghana Ltd, and the Melcom Group. Others are Liberty Group, All Pure Nature, Golden Sunbeam schools, Tech Needs Girls, Fan Milk Ghana, as well as Wire Weaving Industries Limited, New Crystal? Hospital, McDan Shipping, IPMC, Golden Tulip and Business Day Ghana.
The Ghana CSR Diary and Awards was launched in 2011 by the former Minister of Trade and Industry, Honourable Hannah Tetteh and the former President of Association of Ghana Industries (AGI), Nana Owusu Afari.
According to the project manager, Kojo Williams, the objective of the award is ??to identify companies that are giving back to society responsibly and also educate companies and Ghanaians generally about the concept of CSR because the concept is not fully demystified in Ghana especially within the corporate sector??
He explained that the criteria for winning a CSR award constitute rigorous process of submission of report on a company?s CSR activities for the year in review for evaluation among others.
Present at the ceremony were Mr. James Adjei, President of AGI, Mr. Koji Makino, a representative of Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA), Mr. Frederick Alupui, a trade and investment expert who represented Dr. Prosper Adabla-the 1st vice president of Ghana Chamber of Commerce and Industry (GCCI); and Katie May Eavis, Director of CSR productions.
