Accra Labone Leo Club, has taken another giant step by partnering with Korle Gonno Community Library to embark on a massive clean-up exercise in Accra.

The massive clean-up exercise which was organised at Korle Gonno, a suburb of Accra, was also supported by Lets do it Ghana, Mighty Oak Theatre Company and Ablekuma Sub Metro (AMA).

In an interview with the President of Accra Labone Leo Club Leo Rita Esionam Garglo, during the exercise, she noted that, the exercise was aimed at ensuring cleanliness in Accra, which is in line with government’s vision of making the capital, the cleanest city in Africa by 2020.

This she said, in order to achieve this dream there is the need for all and sundry to join the race since sanitation is one of the major challenges thwarting national development in the country.

The exercise also forms part of Accra Labone Leo Club’s 25th Anniversary. So we decided to contribute our quota to national development by partnering with other agencies who are also working assiduously to ensure Ghana becomes the cleanest city in the sub region. Hence a clean-up activity at Korle Gonno,”

“We chose Korle-Gonno because, that is the home of the main organisers (Korle Gonno Community Library). It is our first point of call. We would progressively move to other communities.

We are not only embarking on clean up exercise today. But we are also, educating the public on the need to keep a safe and clean environment in order to avoid cholera rated diseases,” she explained.

This she said, over the years, the club has been embarking on various activities and programmes aimed at helping the underprivileged in the society.

According to her, on Saturday 17th November, the Club will also join her sponsoring Lions Accra Golden Lions Club and other Lions Clubs in Ghana for a diabetes screening at Nungua Market to screen the market women and the residents.

The club will also join the Ghana Lions Clubs International to feed 2000 Street children on Christmas day.
This is has been christened:”Relieving the Hunger activity”. The second part will be in January and it will be organised in Aburi in the Eastern Region.

According to her, early this year on Chocolate Day the Club visited the Princess Marie Louise Children’s Hospital and donated some items including food stuffs to the hospital. We also shared some chocolates and toffees to all the kids.

This event is dubbed: “Childhood Cancer Awareness Day “which is being embarked on annually by the club.

This she said, the Club will be celebrating its 25th Charter Anniversary and Fundraising Dinner on 15th December, 2018 to raise funds to support the Chosen Generation Orphanage.
