The Accra Polytechnic has started a
collaborative programme with the Veterinary Services Department
(VSD) of Ministry of Food and Agriculture, as part of efforts to
enhance veterinary medicine in the country.
The programme would enhance academic ties, promote the
opportunity for skills development and training for the mutual
benefit of the two institutions in particular and the country at
The areas of collaboration include skills development and
training of High National Diploma and Bachelor of Technology
Programmes in Veterinary Laboratory Technology at the Accra
Polytechnic, staff training, staff exchange and research.
Professor Sylvester Achio, Rector of the Polytechnic at the
signing of the memorandum of understanding in Accra on Thursday
said the collaboration would give the Veterinary Laboratory
Technology students practical industrial experience.
He said it was clear that government alone could not meet all
the financial needs of tertiary institutions, and therefore, there
was the need for such institutions to help themselves through
collaboration with others.
The Rector commended the VSD for its support to the Accra
Polytechnic over the years in the area of veterinary medicine.
Dr Ben Aniwa, VSD Acting Director said veterinary laboratory
plays an important role in the work of the Department.
He said the laboratory is highly equipped in line with
international standards with well trained staff. and the
collaboration would help academicians to translate teaching and
learning into industrial practice.
