We live in a society where there is constant pressure, so mental illness has become rampant.
We need to start looking at the psychiatric hospitals as a place where we need to invest because, it could be our child, staff, wives, even ourselves. And once we do all these things, we can be confident of living in a society.
As part of his birthday celebration and an annual social responsibility, Mr. Yaw Ohemeng Kyei, a columnist of the Ghana Business and Finance Magazine, has made items worth Gh¢10.000.00 to the Accra Psychiatric Hospital.
The items includes bags of maize, rice, beans, sugar, beverages, soaps, detergents and others.
Mr. Kyei expressed his commitment to support the needy and the less privileged in the society.
According to him, “every year I set aside some money purposely for social intervention programme, just to put smiles in the face of people so this year, I set aside this amount to put smile on the faces of the inmates and staff of this facility.”
“I understand inmates population is about 350, so I intend to throw a party for inmates of this facility.”
Mr. Yaw Ohemeng, therefore urged other well meaning Ghanaians, philanthropists, corporate institutions, NGOs and others to also try and save a little towards social intervention programme, by way of putting smiles in the faces of the poor and needy in our society.
Jessica Ametsiah, the Principal Nursing Officer, who received the items on behalf of the facility, said the donation was timely and would make a favourable impact on the health delivery efforts of the hospital.
She commended the organisation for the gesture and as Oliver Twist, she asked for more to come and called on other benevolent institutions and philanthropist to support the hospital as well.
