North Tongu Member of Parliament Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa has reignited controversy by alleging the resumed sale of portions of Achimota Forest, accusing the Lands Commission of complicity in what he describes as state capture of lands.

Speaking on TV3’s Key Points, Ablakwa asserted that despite denials from the Ministry of Lands and Natural Resources, sales of state lands, including those housing public institutions and judges, continue to occur under questionable circumstances.

“There has been a resumption of portions of the Achimota Forest,” Ablakwa stated, emphasizing his concerns over what he perceives as a lack of transparency and patriotism within the Lands Commission.

In response to Ablakwa’s allegations, the Ministry of Lands and Natural Resources reiterated that no state lands have been sold under the current administration, attributing controversial land transactions to previous governments.

The Ministry declared in a press statement, “The allegations of state capture are false,” affirming President Akufo-Addo’s commitment to maintaining integrity and transparency in land administration.

Despite official rebuttals, Ablakwa remains steadfast in his claims, pointing to ongoing disputes involving state-owned properties and private developers as evidence of systemic issues within Ghana’s land management practices.

The accusations underscore ongoing debates and concerns surrounding land governance in Ghana, highlighting the challenges of ensuring accountability and ethical practices in public land transactions.
