Adaklu District to mark farmers Day without a DCE

Farmers in Dadome attend a field day demonstrating UDP technology

The Adaklu District will for the first time since its inauguration in 2012 mark the National Farmers Day activities without a substantive District Chief Executive (DCE).

Members of the Assembly on three occasions rejected the two nominees of President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo as DCE for the area.

Mr Phanuel Kadey Donkor, the immediate past DCE for the area, was rejected on two occasions while the second, Mr Bright Nyatsikor, was also rejected.

This year’s Farmers’ Day, which is the 37th since 1985, is on the theme: “Planting for Food and Jobs – Consolidation Food Systems in Ghana.”

The Adaklu District Farmers’ Day will be celebrated at Adaklu Ablornu near Adaklu Waya, the district capital.

The district is well noted for food crops such as yam, corn, beans, plantain and rice.

It is also noted for its quality honey and has vast arable land.

The National Farmers day was instituted by the Provisional National Defence Council led by the late Flt. Lt. Jerry John Rawlings, the Head of State, in 1985.
