Deceased referee Kwame Kyei Andoh

Ghana FA Ethics committee boss Nana Adjei Ampofo claims recent violence against referees have been ?exaggerated? by the media.

Ugly scenes have reared its head on the country?s football over the past few weeks which has led to the death one person with others severely injured.

Promising assistant referee Kwame Kyei Andoh suffered physical assault which led to his death last week in a third-tier League match between Gold Stars and NaaJoe United at Bordie Park.

Class one referee Ali Alhassan was also subjected to severe beatings in a second-tier League match involving Unity FC and Techiman FC over the weekend to highlight the culture of impunity and crowd trouble at matches venues.

However, Ethics committee chairman Nana Adjei Ampofo, who doubles as President of Unity FC , claims recent cases of assault on referees are blown out of proportion.

?It?s not the first time a referee has been assaulted in the Country?. What I mean is that I myself felt ashamed and disappointed but it appears that things are being exaggerated by the media,? he told Radio XYZ

?This is not the first time a Referee has been slapped but we must not exaggerate these things at all.?

Adjei Ampofo?s comment will spark controversy and could land him in hot waters as he is expected to know better in addressing sensitive matters of such nature.
