Adjei-Kojo Land Allocation Surrounded By Confusion

THE TEMA Development Corporation (TDC) is pushing hard to make displaced residents of Adjei-Kojo in the Tema West Constituency agree to relocate to Kpone, a community near Tema, after President John Dramani Mahama had ordered the parcel of land to be returned to the victims.

According to information gathered, the decision became necessary as the TDC had allegedly sold portions of the land to some individuals, and that reclaiming the land from them could make the Corporation incur some debt and get embroiled in legal matters.

Secondly, considering the huge investment made on the land by the TDC such as tarred roads, drains and demarcations, while the matter was under investigation, releasing the entire parcel of land to the victims would financially impact negatively on the Corporation.

Interestingly, failure on the part of the victims to comply with the relocation proposal would see two communities namely, Promise Land and King Solomon City – where the demolition occurred – merge and victims allocated with half plot each on a virgin land around Promise Land, notwithstanding the size of plot a victim had before the properties were demolished.

The land allocation committee said it would allocate plots to only those who were living in completed houses as at the time of the demolition exercise whilst owners of uncompleted houses and bare lands would be left out.

The seven-member committee, which completed its work last Thursday and is expected to submit a report to the office of the Chief of Staff, is now holding that all affected victims will get plots only within the neighbouring Sraha area.

A visit to the area revealed that most of the displaced people were likely going to be victims of flood, viewed from the area TDC intended to release to them.
