Ghana international winger Albert Adomah enjoyed a memorable night from the stands at the Old Trafford as his Middlesbrough side eliminated Manchester United from the English League Cup after beating them 3-1 on penalties.

The 27-year-old twisted his ankle after coming off the bench in Middlesbrough’s 3-1 win over Wolverhampton on Saturday and was doubtful for the game with Boro boss Aitor Karanka revealing the Black Stars player’s injury was not serious but could miss the game.

However Adomah made the trip with Boro to the Theatre of Dreams as his team-mates kicked out United from the competition after eliminating them 3-1 on penalties.

England trio Wayne Rooney, Michael Carrick and Ashley Young all missed in the shootout, as the Boro players celebrated in front of their jubilant 10,000-strong travelling support.

In normal time, Stewart Downing’s rasping drive for Boro was tipped over and Daley Blind put into his own net but striker Kike was flagged offside.

However the Ghana winger is expected to be for the Boro in their highly-anticipated last 8 clash with Everton on November 30.
