Adutor Schools Participate In Maiden Science Quiz Contest

The Assembly Member (AM) for the Adutor Electoral Area in the South Tongu District of the Volta Region, Hon. Promise Kwaku Agbanyo, has stressed the need for parents to invest in the education of their wards. According to him, investing in the educational development of children is the only gesture to secure the much-needed future aspirations in this 21st century where education has become paramount.

Mr. Agbanyo made the call at a maiden science quiz competition for three (3) Junior High Schools (JHSs) in the Adutor area at Adutor.

The friendly science quiz competition was organized not only to test the pupils’ knowledge in their basic science subject and on health issues in their community but also to build their confidence level as young future leaders.

The event also formed part of activities marking the 45th anniversary of the Adutor Health Centre which has its grand durbar of stakeholders scheduled for Saturday, 21st September, 2024.

The three (3) schools were represented by three (3) pupils each for the contest. The Avuto-Akutukope D.A. JHS was represented by Anastasia Glover, Nutifafa Segbe, and Mary Sefogbe whereas contestants from the Adutor EP JHS ‘B’ were Herbert Toffah, Kplorla Mide, and Catherine Badasu with Francisca Akoto as an additional stand-by contestant. Solomon Dawukudzi, Sefadzi Nyamor, and Peace Suglo stood for the Adutor RC JHS ‘A’ in the four-round contest.

The event afforded the contestants, the opportunity to answer close to one hundred (100) questions in all in science and on health issues affecting the community in particular and the larger society in general.

Adutor RC JHS ‘A’ came first with seventy-six (76) marks at the end of the competition, which was witnessed by some parents as well as staff of the Adutor Health Centre. Adutor EP JHS ‘B’ placed second with seventy (70) points while Avuto-Akutukope DA JHS took the third position with fifty-seven (57) marks.

The Assembly Member for the area, Hon. Promise Kwaku Agbanyo used the occasion to renew his appeal to parents to heavily invest in the education of their wards. Speaking to our news team in an interview after the contest, Mr. Agbanyo noted that children are the assets of their parents and guardians, adding that nothing should be done to jeopardize their future.

He commended the staff of the Adutor Health Centre and the parents who graced the occasion, saying it was a mark of unity not only among stakeholders of the community but also an exemplary life that the children can learn from.

The Chairman of the 45th Anniversary Planning Committee of the Adutor Health Centre, Mr. Joseph Oscar Azaglo was the Quiz Master for the event. He described the event and the performance of the pupils as enthusiastic and urged them not to rest on their oars.

He was also full of praise for the teachers for adequately preparing the children to be able to fully take part in the contest.

Mr. Azaglo announced that all the contestants would be honored with certificates of participation on Saturday during the grand durbar in addition to a little cash donation to appreciate their efforts, talents, and performance during the contest.

The contestants who spoke with our news team after the competition, described the event as very encouraging and the questions as standard, adding that there is more room for improvement in subsequent competitions.

The teachers, on their part, also commended the organizers of the event, hoping that it would become a regular feature of education in the area beyond this one.

Messrs John Doe Afealete, Assistant Headteacher of Adutor EP Basic School, Godwin Abotsi of the Avuto-Akutukope DA Basic School as well as Wisdom Doku, Assistant Headteacher of Adutor RC Basic School, stressed the need for stakeholder support for the program, emphasizing that sustaining the event would greatly inure to the benefit of the school children in the area and beyond.

Apart from the Quiz Master, Mr. Emmanuel Osabutey was the Time Keeper whereas Mr. Tenacious Gbetormenyo played the role of a Records Keeper.
