Mr. Magnus Rex Danquah, member of the Ghana AFCON 2017 bid committee has said that the Cape Coast Sports Stadium will host some matches of the competition should the construction be completed ahead of time.
Speaking to the Sports Writers Association of Ghana (SWAG) at the Alisa Hotel, Accra on Tuesday, Mr. Danquah said, ” For us, we know that Ghana is ready to host the AFCON 2017 because we already have the Accra, Kumasi, Sekondi and the Tamale Stadiums and if Cape Coast Stadium comes on stream then there will be a strategy to reconfigure some of the matches to that venue as well.”

The 15,000 capacity multi-purpose stadium, which is being funded with a $30 million Chinese government grant is expected to be completed in August this year.

The stadium when completed will have an eight lane running tracks, football field, two basketball courts, a handball court, one boxing court, media room and a press conference hall.
It will also have other facilities such as; a medical room, two security rooms, two referee rooms, three management rooms, canteen, kitchen, an audience emergency room, fire fighting room, two VIP lobby halls and twenty-two guest rooms.

According to Mr. Rex Danquah, Ghana stands a great chance of winning the AFCON 2017 hosting right.
