Cote d’Ivoire won the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) on Sunday in Abidjan, beating Nigeria 2-1 in the final.

Despite a game largely dominated by Cote d’Ivoire, it was Nigeria who opened the scoring in the 38th minute against the run of play, when captain William Troost-Ekong rose highest to head home a corner.

The host nation got back on level terms in the 62nd minute after Franck Kessie headed in a cross from Simon Adingra.

Cote d’Ivoire’s winning goal came in the 81st minute, when striker Sebastien Haller flicked home Adingra’s cross from the left to secure Cote d’Ivoire’s third AFCON title, after previous wins in 1992 and 2015.
