Alexander Afenyo-Markin, the Majority Leader in Parliament, has defended Dr Matthew Opoku Prempeh, the New Patriotic Party (NPP) running mate, against accusations of arrogance by the National Democratic Congress (NDC).

Afenyo-Markin argued that Dr. Prempeh’s assertiveness is a positive attribute that will contribute to the transformation of Ghana.

At the NPP’s manifesto launch in Takoradi on August 18, 2024, Afenyo-Markin compared the NDC’s previous attempts to label President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo as arrogant.

He suggested that such tactics could have helped Akufo-Addo’s effectiveness and leadership.

“We know you tagged Akufo-Addo as arrogant, but it didn’t work. He is ready to transform Ghana with that same ‘arrogance,‘” Afenyo-Markin said.

He also called on NPP parliamentary candidates and party members to intensify their efforts to secure victories in the upcoming elections. Despite the slim majority in Parliament, Afenyo-Markin emphasized the need for unity and relentless campaigning.

“Don’t give up, let us work together… To our parliamentarians, I say Kudos to all of you. I thank you for your support through your steadfastness and resilience, although we have a very tight parliament, he stated.

He urged candidates to set aside internal disputes and focus on campaigning vigorously.

“Move on, fight hard, campaign day and night, and go to every household. We don’t have time to settle disputes, he added.

“Fight for this party the way you fight to save a sister; fight for this party the way you save a mother. We need our numbers in Parliament, Afenyo-Markin concluded.
