Alexander Afenyo-Markin, the newly appointed Chairman of Ghana’s Electricity Committee (ECG), has called upon the company’s management to refine its procurement processes to achieve significant cost savings.

Speaking at his swearing-in ceremony, Afenyo-Markin emphasized the importance of exploring options to streamline procurement, which he believes will enable ECG to reinvest savings into improving services and infrastructure.

“Let us explore options to refine our procurement processes and cut costs,” Afenyo-Markin urged. “By reinvesting these savings into better services and infrastructure, we can create a virtuous cycle of efficiency and growth.”

Furthermore, the Majority Leader encouraged ECG management to adopt innovative financing mechanisms such as green bonds. He highlighted that such initiatives support infrastructure upgrades and align with global sustainability trends, contributing to a greener future for Ghana.

“Investing in our workforce is essential,” Afenyo-Markin emphasized. “We can enhance employee morale and productivity by providing comprehensive training programs and implementing a performance-based rewards system. By improving safety standards, we also aim to reduce workplace incidents and foster a culture of excellence.”

Afenyo-Markin concluded by stressing the importance of regulatory compliance and transparency. He proposed strengthening ECG’s compliance office and implementing mechanisms for regular public reporting to enhance trust and accountability.

The Effutu lawmaker’s directives underscore his commitment to improving operational efficiency and sustainability within ECG, marking a significant step forward under his leadership.
