Minister of Home Affairs Davies Mwila said in a statement that the Zambian leader has pardoned the inmates in line with powers vested in him and that the gesture has contributed to decongesting prison facilities in the country.

The Zambian minister added that the pardoning of 40 Ethiopian juveniles was of great significance as it resolves the dilemma of having young people incarcerated together with adults.

The Zambian minister expressed optimism that the pardoned inmates had reformed and would be responsible citizens.
