“The event will thus show-case African forests and wildlife and their contribution to economic and social development in the continent, especially in the face of challenges posed by the current global financial and food crises and the impacts of climate change,” AFWC said in a statement on Friday.

The meeting which begins on Monday will provide an opportunity for forest and wildlife managers and custodians of related natural resources to exchange knowledge, information and experiences to help inform policy at national and sub-regional levels.

The statement said the policy makers will also deliberate on the contribution of forests and wildlife to the national economy and also to the improvement of the livelihoods of the populations

Among the topics to be discussed during the week-long event include implementation of forest and wildlife policies in Africa, harmonizing policies and laws to reduce growing conflict on land use and value addition and trade in timber and non timber forest products in Africa. Enditem
