In a space of two years, Ayoba, MTN’s African Super App, has reached 10 million active users monthly.
The App, which aims to harness growth in the African digital economy by breaking barriers to the internet and digital services, as well as affordability, now has more than one million customers.
Mr Serigne Dioum, the Digital and Fintech Officer of MTN, said this in a statement copied to the Ghana News Agency (GNA) on Sunday.
“We celebrate this milestone and are pleased that through Ayoba we can provide access to affordable communications so that millions of people across our markets can enjoy the benefits of a modern connected life,” he said.
“MTN’s Ambition 2025 strategy is to drive digital and financial inclusion across Africa, and via Ayoba we intend to reach 100 million monthly active users by 2025, ensuring more people reap the social, economic, and developmental dividends of being online.”
In just two years of existence, Mr Dioum said the App had received the Best Over-the-Top (OTT) Brand of the Year accolade at the Marketing World Awards and recently received the Best Mobile App from Bonteh Digital Awards.
On some of its achievements, Mr Burak Akinci, the Chief Executive Officer of MTN, said the progress in 2021 had been considerably growing in excess of four million users.
That, he said, was a clear sign that the African market really enjoyed using Ayoba, and that it had come to stay .
He attributed the growth to the hard work of his team, and to the loyal users.
“We look forward to even bigger growth in 2022, as we see progress from the new features, content and general improvement that we will be launching throughout the year.”
Mr Akinci reassured all that Ayoba would continue to offer users access to digital and rich media services through channels, micro-apps, and payment solutions.
These will be done through over 180 content channels ranging from Sports, News, Music & Artists, Health & Wellness, Careers, Fashion & Beauty, Education and Travel.
In addition, users now had access to a range of 35 micro-apps, including MTN Online School (SA) and MTN Mobile Money (MoMo), which added even more content to a deep and hyper localised offering, he said.
Users could send and receive encrypted messages in 22 diverse languages, share photos, videos, files, voice notes and even their location, and can also subscribe to live channels.
“Ayoba is available to MTN and non-MTN customers. MTN customers are automatically allocated free data to use the ayoba features including messaging, browsing, gaming, and listening to music,” Mr Akinci said.
