Accra Girls’ Senior High School held their Fun Games on Friday, 6th March, 2020 at the School’s Sports Field as part of the activities marking its 60th Anniversary.
Both current and past students took part in the games which was graced by distinguished personalities like Mrs. Joyce Acolatse (AGOSA ’78) – Headmistress, Mrs. Awurabena Okrah (AGOSA ’66) – Chairman, Board of Governors, Ms. Cornelia Amoah (AGOSA’ 73 ) – School Board Member, Mrs. Stella Appenteng (AGOSA ’66) – Planning Committee Chairperson, Ms. Wilhelmina Arthur (AGOSA ’71) – National President AGOSA, Miss Lankai Quarcoopome (AGOSA ’76) – Planning Committee Secretary and Mrs. Joyce Mahama (AGOSA ’74) – President of Women Sports Association of Ghana.
The 60th Anniversary was launched on 27th September, 2019 with the theme ‘Sixty (60) Years of Promoting Girl Child Education; The Past, The Present and The Future’.
The Games resulted in a healthy competition between Buckman, Aryee, Pink & Gibson houses whose participants wore their house colours to make the event colourful as the compete in games such as football, basketball, lime & spoon, musical chairs among others.
At the end of it all Buckman House was declared the overall winners. In an interview with Madam Joyce Mahama, a member of the Ghana Olympic Committee (GOC), she advised all participants to practice healthy living by exercising and engaging in sporting activities. She also hinted that Ampe has been recognised as an International sport and would be featured at the All African Games to be hosted in Ghana in 2023. The Old Girls of Gibson House took the opportunity to hand over the re-furbished bathroom facility to the headmistress and both students, old girls and teachers were there to witness the handover. Mr. Prince Agortey (Assistant Headmaster) and Ms. Cornelia Amoah were the MC’s for the occasion.
