Airstrikes on Libya kills 4

At least four people were killed, including a woman and her 10-year-old son, on Sunday when unidentified war planes hit Libya's eastern city of Darna, according to witnesses.

Two members of Darna’s Shura Council, an coalition of armed extremists fighting against the official government forces, were also killed in the airstrike.

The airstrike hit a hospital in western Darna on Sunday morning. No government statement was issued regarding the airstrike.

Darna, a coastal city located nearly 1100 km east of the capital Tripoli, is controlled by extremist militants who oppose the internationally recognized government.

Libya has been suffering a security vacuum with increased dominance of extremists since the fall and death of former leader Muammar Gaddafi in 2011.

The country has been plagued with escalating violence and political division. Enditem
