A new Magistrate Court building has been commissioned at Akatsi in the Akatsi South Municipality of the Volta Region to help bring justice to the doorstep of the people and for matters in controversy to be fully determined by the court.

The new court building, which was commissioned on Monday was in compliance with an approval from the Chief Justice in a letter signed by Justice Pamela Cynthia A. Addo, the Judicial Secretary, after a request by the Akatsi South MCE for the court to be relocated from the old structure to the newly completed building.

Mr Kofitsey Martin Nyahe, the Municipal Chief Executive for Akatsi South, in an address during the commissioning, commended the government and many others who contributed in diverse ways to the realisation of the project.

He said the move would put to an end the struggles and challenges encountered by the judicial staff at the old court structure, especially during the rainy season, where cases had to be adjourned and transferred in most cases.

Mr Nyahe called for a culture of maintenance and proper usage of the building in achieving the intended purpose.

Mr Emmanuel Davies, the Akatsi Magistrate Judge, in a short speech, indicated the new facility would advance the call for law and order in the area.

He also commended past and current MCEs, Mr Edward Doe Adade, the Assembly member for the area, the Chiefs, some philanthropists, and all who added their quota to complete the project.

The new building, which was started in 2010, has offices such as, Exhibits room, Registrars office, washroom, general office, cashiers office, docket office, magistrate office, male and female holding cells, and court room.

It was witnessed by representatives from the Avenor Traditional Council, the Clergy, Municipal Assembly staff, Heads of Department and others.
