Pupils from primary, junior high, senior high schools and voluntary organisations in the Akyemansa District of the Eastern Region marked the 58thIndependence Day with a march past.

Akim Ofoase District Assembly (D/A) Junior High School emerged winners of the march past competition.

The Akim Ofoase Roman Catholic came second and Bontodiase Primary and Junior High schools placed third.

In the senior high category the Akokoaso Senior High School won the first position.

Mr. Tom Budu, District Chief Executive (DCE) for Akyemansa, who reviewed the parade, commended the students for the enthusiasm they displayed and noted that the parade was one paramount avenue of grooming a new generation of future leaders for the country.

He said 100 students had been selected from both Akokoaso Senior Technical School and Ayirebi Senior High School to benefit from the free SHS.

Mr. Budu said the government would take care of the school fees and basic needs of the students such as school bags, uniforms, pocket money, as well as sandals and would provide sanitary pads, braziers among others for the ladies.
