President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo reiterated his government’s dedication to advancing healthcare and education for all Ghanaians, despite acknowledging significant achievements in these sectors.

During an event marking the conferral of his 6th honorary doctorate degree by the University of Health and Allied Sciences (UHAS) on July 29, 2024, President Akufo-Addo underscored ongoing efforts to bolster the nation’s healthcare infrastructure. He highlighted a substantial GH¢33 billion investment aimed at ensuring equitable access to quality healthcare across Ghana.

Notable projects benefiting from this funding include the completion of critical facilities such as the University of Ghana Medical Centre, Wa Regional Hospital, and extensive renovations at the Tamale Teaching Hospital.

In alignment with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, President Akufo-Addo affirmed his administration’s commitment to achieving Universal Health Coverage by 2030. He also celebrated the inauguration of UHAS Phase II, a $60 million initiative poised to expand the university’s capacity to train healthcare professionals. This expansion is pivotal in bridging the gap between healthcare demands and the availability of skilled personnel in Ghana.

President Akufo-Addo expressed gratitude to the Government and People of the People’s Republic of China for their pivotal role in supporting UHAS Phase II. He emphasized that with cutting-edge facilities and resources, UHAS is poised to lead in health research and innovation, positioning Ghana as a healthcare leader in Africa.

Reflecting on these milestones, President Akufo-Addo emphasized the importance of vision, diligence, and perseverance in achieving national goals. He concluded by reaffirming his administration’s unwavering commitment to furthering healthcare and education initiatives for the benefit of all Ghanaians.
